Information about Facial Rejuvenation

OTHER NON-SURGICAL METHODS OF FACIAL REJUVENATION

Electrosurgical Resurfacing

In electrosurgical resurfacing, radio waves are used to remove layers of the epidermis without causing bleeding. One treatment is all that is required. Downtime is from a few days up to one week.

Dermabrasion

During dermabrasion the outer layers of skin are removed with an abrasive rotary brush to expose the dermis. Usually one treatment, with a downtime of 7-10 days is enough.

Microdermabrasion

During microdermabrasion particles of powder come out through a hand piece thereby smoothing some of the layers of the skin, which theoretically causes the skin to produce more collagen.

There is no downtime with microdermabrasion. Usually 6 treatments every 10 days to 2 weeks are recommended.

Chemical Peeling

During chemical peeling a chemical solution is put on the skin that “burns” the top layer of skin and causes it to peel off. The newly exposed skin is softer and younger looking than the old skin. Downtime can range from a few days to a few weeks, depending on the strength of the solution used.

Acid Peeling

During an office visit a weak acid solution is applied to the skin for a few minutes. Skin may peel or flake over the next few days causing new collagen to form. At least 6 treatments are needed at varying intervals, but there is no downtime.

Laser Resurfacing

During laser resurfacing a high-energy beam of light is directed through a hand piece vaporizing skin imperfections layer by layer. Downtime is from a few days to a week.
